Why our planters are different

Most planters fail where it counts — they rot, overheat, fall apart, or stunt your plants. At Liberty Jones Planters, we fixed all that. Our raised beds are built from Western Red Cedar and Incense Cedar, these woods are filled with natural oils that are resistant to water and insects. We then made zero compromise by sealing the cedar with an ancient time-tested Japanese technique called Yakisugi/Shou Sugi Ban. We have adapted this method with modern tools, resulting in a planter that will allow your grandkids to reap what you sow. Literally. Torched with flame for longevity and sealed with our house-made food safe finish. These planters are designed to let your plants and soil breathe. Our flagship 4×4 is 32 inches deep for real root growth, uses precision joinery and robust metal connectors for modularity. Optional modular expansions and heat-smart finishes mean your garden grows cleaner, faster, and better, Season after season. That’s the Jones standard.

The Problem: Trapped water drowns roots and causes rot.

Our Fix: Every Liberty Jones Planter is designed with smart elevation, breathable materials, and optional mesh liners to keep roots healthy and well-drained.

The Problem: Most planters use softwood or untreated lumber that rots in just a season or two.

Our Fix: We build with premium Western Red Cedar—naturally rot-resistant—and enhance durability with Shou Sugi Ban (charred wood) and protective finishes that stand up to the elements.

The Problem: Small beds limit your garden’s potential.

Our Fix: Our standard beds are 30 inches tall—deep enough for roots to stretch and strong enough to hold real volume.

The Problem: Screws pull out, joints fail, or the whole thing wobbles.

Our Fix: Our modular walls use precision joinery and metal connectors, ensuring a tight, strong, and rebuildable frame. It’s structural, not just decorative.

The Problem: Many metal-sided planters overheat in direct sun, damaging roots.

Our Fix: We use corrugated metal designed to breathe and reflect heat—not absorb it—and our optional finishes include heat-deflecting tones or insulation barriers.

The Problem: Gophers, bugs, or neighborhood animals invade from below.

Our Fix: Our planters can be fitted with underside pest mesh, and the raised height naturally deters most intruders.

The Problem: Soil gets compacted or depleted, and plants stop thriving.

Our Fix: We include guidance for seasonal composting and refill tips, and our modular design makes it easy to replace or refresh soil without starting over.

The Problem: Planters that come with a pile of parts and no clue how to put them together.

Our Fix: Liberty Jones beds use a few clean components that connect with 4 Allen bolts. No mystery. 15 minutes, 1 tool, done.

The Problem: Most beds are fixed. Once you outgrow them, you’re stuck.

Our Fix: Our modular system lets you expand with extension kits, trellises, and more—just bolt on when you’re ready.

The Problem: Most planters fade, peel, or look worn after one season.

Our Fix: Whether it’s natural cedar, full black char, or a weathered grain finish, our surfaces are built to age with grace—not fall apart.
