About Liberty Jones Planters

Liberty Jones Planters started from noticing how much things have changed.

The food we eat.
The things we buy.
What we’ve come to accept as normal.

Over time, food has gotten blander. Less nutritious. Picked before it’s ready so it can survive shipping instead of nourish the person eating it. Products are made cheaper, faster, and with a built-in failure point, all in the name of short-term return. Somewhere along the way, quality became optional.

We didn’t feel good about that.

We are a small team of craftsmen based in Bend, Oregon, focused on building things with intention, utility, healthy, real materials, and honest craft.. Not to recreate the past, but to move forward with better values. We believe the future isn’t disposable. It’s thoughtful. It’s durable. It’s rooted in real materials and real use.

When something is made well, you feel it. You care for it differently. You trust it. It earns its place in your home. Everyone deserves access to that kind of craft, things made with attention, meant to last, not designed to be replaced.

The same belief lives in how we think about food.

There is nothing like harvesting something you grew yourself. A tomato picked at the right moment. A potato pulled from the soil. The flavor alone is enough to remind you how far removed store-bought food has become. But the benefits go far beyond taste. Growing food connects you to the land, your body, and the systems that keep you alive. It’s grounding. It’s healthy. It’s empowering.

Most food today travels thousands of miles before it reaches a plate. By the time it arrives, nutrients are already degrading. Resources have been burned. Waste has been created. Growing even a small portion of your own food changes that equation immediately.

For us, gardening isn’t about trends, looks, or lifestyle signaling. It’s about relationship. Plants are living systems. How they’re treated matters. The environment they’re placed in matters. Care compounds over time.

A planter isn’t just a container. It sets the conditions for roots, moisture, airflow, and stability. When those conditions are right, plants grow stronger. The food they produce feels different. Not just in flavor, but in how your body responds to it.

Our approach to materials comes from paying attention. Watching how wood moves. How water behaves. How heat, cold, and time actually affect things outside. We test. We adjust. We design for reality, not ideal conditions. Nothing is added without a reason. Nothing is decorative just to be decorative.

We build in Bend, Oregon because this place doesn’t let you fake durability. Sun, snow, wind, and time will expose weak decisions quickly. Our shop is where ideas get worked through by hand and proven through use. If something doesn’t hold up, it doesn’t stay.

Liberty Jones isn’t really about planters. It’s about choosing to live with things that make sense. Things that last. Things that support health, attention, and care instead of replacing them. Small decisions still matter. How you grow food matters. How things are made matters.

That’s the lens we work from.
Everything else follows.
